im in the middle of a full size sluice build. this thing is gonna get it. i am designing it to be shoveled directly into without classifing. the punch plate is out of my highbanker im making another one that covers the entire flare. </a>'> </a>'>

I know u like building your own stuff if you r thinking of a dredge there are keene floats off a 4in on craigslist charolette for 80 $ offer him like 50

You could experiment with an over under system and use a grizzly for top portion to drop out AU. Expanded or punch will grab and hold rocks. I have even experimented with my dredge and had problems moving rock with out disturbing setup. Also, you will create unwanted turbulence that may float small gold instead settling it out. On creeks with little elevation in regards to production sluices, I think a bazooka sluice is best. Found that out last week.
You can shovel that box you have now if you have enough elevation and water flow. The slick plate is a must though. Matter of fact it needs to be 24" more like a mini flume. You have to give the AU time to settle before the processing starts.

On dredges the flared cone header settles out AU before entering sluice punch plate. On most dredges they are around 36" long or better. So... that is the dredges slick plate.
