I went out today (Wed) to UNF and it was only my second time prospecting. The streams were pretty full and muddy, but the creeks seemed OK. No luck. Only gold was maybe a speck. I know I'm just beginning at this. I really need go on a group event. Saturday's are just tough as my kids are home and my wife has pottery class. Sunday or during the week works out better (I'm self employed).
It would be helpful to hear any thoughts (guesses) as to why no gold today. Was it my technique, problems with my self-built sluice, or the location I was in?
I was on an offshoot of West Branch Moccasin creek, upstream of Mulinix Rd. Is it a non-gold area or over panned (like overfished)? See photo 1

I had a Garrett pan classifier on top of a 3.5 gallon bucket with 1/4" holes drilled in it, on top of a 5 gallon bucket. I would shovel into the top and shake, rattle and wash it down. Then run the material that made it down to the lower bucket through my sluice. After 2-3 buckets I would pan the sluice cleanout.
It was like fishing though. Even though I didn't get anything it was still great to be outside today!
