Thanks Sam for explaining a little about clay in the other thread. That opens up a lot more questions for me than answers. I have seen several color and textures of clay (dont for get smell). What colors of clay have been productive for you. I know yellow has never really had anything in it, but gray clay has. I have heard people talking about blue, green and , black clays have good gold in them. Also did the clays layer have rocks in it?

In UNF I do well in blue clay. There are usually rocks in it but it is where I have found my biggest pieces.

go for the gray or blue clay for the best results

So here is the deal with blue clay – It is weathered slate or shale. If the slate has gold, the clay will have gold. The slate is the host rock, which is why you will have quartz within the in-situ clay. The quartz intruded into the slate, the slate weathered out leaving a hunk of clay with a quartz rock in it. If it was an auriferous quartz rock, even better.
