If anyone wants to camp out any weekend up there let me know. Guests can bring their own campers,rv's, or tents and stay on the property as my guest. I am up there most any weekend. Till we start dredging the big waters anyway... Give me a call anytime: 864-356-5158

How do you make reservations for this camp and do they allow dredging or is it pan and sluice only You have to be a LDMA (Lost Dutchmans Mining Association) member or the guest of a member to prospect on that property. There are 3 LDMA properties on the East Coast, Loud Mine in Georgia and Vein Mt. property near Marion, NC. Welcome to the board! I have no idea if members have to have reservations, or if dredging is allowed.

LDMA is a lifetime membership and is owned by the same group as the GPAA. The membership is pretty expensive, but I understand they take monthly payments. My personal belief is that the membership is not worth it, but I am not familiar with the benefits that come with the membership. There are more properties on the west coast and many of their members are retired and have time to travel.
It is hard to find gold in SC. Indyme2 has already found most of it.

But seriously, there are lots of guys on here who may can help you out. GPOC has some SC locations and schedule some group outings. Maybe Wes will chime in and give you more info on that since he is their chief gopher and president.

Most of the northern drainages into lake Jocassee are know to have placer gold in them. I don't know the state laws for south carolina so read up on this first. I hope this helps some.

By the way. This is some of the best waterfall contry in the southeast. Whitewater, Thompson, Horsepasture, and Toxaway rivers all have beautiful waterfalls. Be careful!!!! Waterfalls are mesmerizing then they will kill you. I hate to be so blunt but people die every year because they get to close slip and fall. That said take a boat across the lake and check out the mouths of these rivers. Across the border into north carolina is gorges state park. You can't prospect there. However in the game land and national forest you can with pans and shovel. Not sure about sluices.

I should also mention that if you are truly interested in LDMA, you can usually find memberships for sale from private individuals at a huge discount.

Matt is a member of the LDMA and spends about every weekend there. Most of the locations are pretty well mined out from my experience but if you have a lot of free time and enjoy camping it would probably be worth it if for nothing more than the saving from renting a camper spot. The GPOC does have some locations in SC and we have a lot of members that are knowledgeable and willing to help. It's best to be sure this is something you are going to stick with before making a big investment in it. Wes

The reason I joined LDMA was simple, good cheap camping, good gold if you know where to look, and usually great people to hang out with and socialize. Plus I live an hour away from Oconee camp and keep my camper there year round. PM me if you want to know more or come over as a guest one weekend. Matt
