So ive been hearing about these angus mackirk sluice boxs that seem to do very well in small creeks. I like how its an all one piece plastic drop riffle design making clean up easy and fast. Its lightweight yet rugged and durable. Ive been thinking about gettin one but im not sure because i hear you need to classifie your materail down to quarter inch also there is no black v mat i am a huge fan of black v mat it allows you to see what you have you can even track your gold that way. Id like to hear from all the angus mackirk owners about classifing and what you think about your AM sluice love um? hate um? i need all the info i can get thanks.

I hear they make great cleanout sluices. Not really made for speed processing. There is no getting around classifying regardless of what equipment used if you want a good recovery. You could make a small sluice using V mat with slow water. Maybe put a nugget trap of expanded within it and there ya go. I think they are to pricy and slow for a production sluice. Just my opinion.

I liked mine.. I had a bigger production type of sluice called the Alaskan. I could see gold dancing behind the first riffle when I was running it. It also has a slick plate with little plastic circles that act like the mat, so you can see some peices of gold sitting on the top end of the sluice.

I love mine, I have the Foreman (double flare) The fine gold recovery is amazing on it, and I think 1/4" is overkill on classifying, I screen at 1/2". Like cabarrus said, you have to classify for any sluice, with the exception of the Bazooka Gold Trap.
Like ywevis said, you can see some gold dancing around up top, but i agree, the one disadvantage is not having a black mat, but i think you make up for it with being able to do a clean out in 5 minutes, from pulling it out of the stream to panning it out. No flushing the black mat out or messing with moss.

Thank you to everyone so far for the info. I use a half inch classifier for my current sluice and that works very well for me i just dont want to go smaller because i have found nuggets over the years that would not fall through a quarter inch classifier. It seems to me it takes to much time to ither look through all the classifier tailings or to pan those tailings for lost gold. This is the problem i see with AM sluices if you have to go smaller that half inch then you could lose gold. Like i said im a HUGE FAN of black v mat the way i built, setup, and feed dirt into my box i get about 85% [or more] gold on that v mat. Still doing my research on these AMs for some reason they appeal to me.

Love AM Foreman sluice. It can handle 1/2 inch with no problem. Set the front plate near flat and the rest will be at the correct angle. Need to put a rock on it to keep it where you want it.

I have a foreman and can classify to 1/2" with good water flow and proper pitch. I also have a Recon, Scout and Grubsteak that I use when water levels are low, however I usually classify to 1/4" on those. AM's are awesome once you get past the setup learning curve. Vic

I like the level he has on it. I put a round bubble level on top of my old 5hp Briggs motor for quick setup. (Oil level safety switch)

Mark has been playing with the filter that censors words on the board. As far as I know, there are no censored words. Just misspell sluiice, it will bypass the filter:)

I was taught never to disturb the head water in an AM. Tromping around in the water up stream can send a tsunami into the riffle thingies and blow out all the gold.

The abyss/trench riffles but I don't think its out to the public yet. Their current price list has all of the Au. Trap sluices tagged with abyss.

The AM sluice suits your prospecting style. Mike would do well with one also.

I also like a challenge. I still am a believer of a production sluice. That's the dredger coming out of me, I guess.

i have considered that but i will say this.. even though AMs kickass if i cant get black mat to work then i can build a better box than an AM. for my prospecting style i need v mat up front

I tried to tell him to use that spray on rubber on the front of the angus, it would work like a rubber mat.

At the very least, black mat in the traps. That way, if you have a surge, you have less of a chance of losing gold. A pre classifier of some kind would be good also.
