There has been a little discussion on this subject. I would like to have a further discussion if it doesn't get out of hand. I was thinking about this because , yesterday I was in a spot that had wild boar, bear, coyote, domestic dogs, wild dogs, some bobcats. This is within 5 miles of my house. I have seen the bears and have them on a game cam. I feel safer in UNF. The land we were on has paid boar hunts. discuss.

I always carry, mostly a Single-Six with the 22wmr cylinder in. I wouldn't worry about the bears at all, they will run if they see you. Out of the animals you mentioned...snakes aren't on the list and would be #1 on my list. For this time of year, hogs and dogs would be on top. I am guessing you aren't the trigger happy type like your avatar suggests LoL...

I believe in carrying. Many reasons to and not many reason not to. Along with all of the wildlife reason above, I head in and out on many a lonely dirt road..alone. Never had any issues but have come up on some very strange folk who were very curious and not real happy i was where I was. Also can be be a great help signal in the event of an emergency. I am relatively new to the gold prospecting but old in the world of civil war relic hunting, Indian artifacts, gems and serious nc mountain backwoods fishing.

My worry would be boars and wild dogs. The rest will avoid you. If you have time to pull out on a snake, you had time to avoid the snake. Make sure you have a carry permit or you may have issues with rangers and police. The rangers and police are my biggest worry while packing.

I always carry regardless. I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6!

I firmly believe if you can legally own a gun you should be able to legally carry a gun, anywhere, anytime. Wes

I was a forest service volunteer. We used this forum to organize clean up days and scheduling range officers. Trigger happy? Hell yeah. I love turning money into noise. Used to put thousands of rounds down range every year. Ammo is too expensive now.

I agree 100%....I used to shoot quite often but with .40 @ .50c a round its just gotten too expensive to just go out and shoot. I still shoot .22 from time to time but the days of shooting a 525rd box of federal is gone as of right now. The cheapest round to shoot is now the most desirable and I try to keep 2-3k rounds around.

Cabin fever has really set in and I am heading out prospecting this weekend. All I need is someone to carry my pans for me since I am maxed out on gear already.
