My name is joey I have been prospecting in uwharrie national forest now for a little more than a year. I've panned or used a sluice box in most of the areas you guys have mentioned. My fever started with a motorcycle accident. My wife told me I was going to die and I didn't have good life insurance so I had to pick a safer hobby. I started panning first mostly on the river. It took a most a month to figure out what I was looking for. Class of hard knock I reckon. I thought I could find it with no problem. That was my first mistake. Second mistake research. I had never walk in a riverbed before. I thought anybody could do that. They can but it ain't flat! Five minutes in I trip fall over a rock and end up face to face with the water snake! Glad his mouth was already full of catfish . Man the first few trips were humbling to say the least. If the river didn't have it out for me the adventure did. I had a blast! I watched a few YouTube videos and before long I start finding gold. I convenced the loan manager I needed a gold dredge. I convinced her I would pay with a life time of love and a honest effort on her honey do list. I got a three inch proline with air. I had never did any diving in my life. And what's more funny is the guy I bought it from didn't know how to use it!!! Back to youtube. I had learned I could use it at the 109 bridge so off I went. It was amazing! The water was crystal clear and everything had beautiful colors. I have read though a lot of this forum and was hoping to tag a long on some of the adventures. And learn more about my addiction. Thanks for all the information on this forum.

Welcome to the forums, not sure if ya can go down off the 109 bridge.. That's a hell of a way to get into that river.. Ya must be really strong, and like to carry that equipment far.. Where do you live at? We go out from time to time, well actually alot. We have to get to know ya to bring ya to a dredging spot unless we goto the rocky river or a different river.

I carried the dredge down in pieces. The frame, pontoons and motor. Then sluice box and jet. Then everything else. I leave in denton so im not to far away. As for strength its more hard headedness. If anyone wants to go panning or slicing send message. As for dredging can't wait to give it a shot. I would like to try the rocky river.

It is a lot of work. But it is the only place I know I can use it. Plus its so much fun because you can see what your doing. Following the bed rock crack and moving around large rocks and under them plus the add thought of finding a gold nugget or picker drives me on. The fever wont let go. I have to work this weekend but next weekend I will be off. I might be able to go panning Monday or Tuesday if anyone's up for it

I haven't tried 9 degree weather either. I have went in 20 degree weather. That was cold enough for me. However who knows what we would do when the bug bites. Just let me know when and where. I'll do my best to get there. On thing I do is go and check out the creeks and river to spot any unusual currents or eddy.

Days when the weather is bad and we have had a lot of rain I like checking out the creeks and river for unusual currents or eddy.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. I really am hooked. I've been trying to learn all I can. Mostly I have been at it by myself. Youtube and several forums were my teachers. I tried MAtthews gpaa but its a little to far a way. The people were very polite and for the most part informative. I wanted something closer to home. I hope to find some panning buddy's. Hopeful soon I might be able to tag along on a dredging outting. I am curious minded so I like trying new ideas and building on the ones that work the best.

Good to see you on here Joey. The GPAA Kannapolis (Matthews) Club is having an outing at the Club House on Saturday the 22nd. It will be a Chili Cook-off and the creek will be open for panning and dredging if anyone wants to come should be a good size group. If anyone is free on that Saturday come on over. It starts about 2pm but members and guest will be getting there a lot earlier than that, especially those that want to do a little prospecting
