The large rock is about the size of a basketball. The last three pictures show some of the crystals inside. SHould I try and open it?

hard to say about smashing it. you might want to keep it the way it is. your call.

I probably wouldn't Break it open. It's hard to tell from the pics but I don't think that it's going to open up inside, at least not enough to produce anything of decent size. But that's just my opinion... It looks cool the way it is. Nice find!

I found these around a couple large oaks that fell during storms. Thought it was cool to find the small cluster and larger rock. Do you usually find larger and smaller crystals together in an area or are they usually similar in size in one area. Do you think it would be worth digging?

You can find large crystals and small crystals in the same vein. I would dig it

Back to diggin a little bit today. Did not have long worked a couple feet away from the fallen tree in one direction. Found a couple more crystallized rocks. No loose crystals. Dirt is really sticky, hard to find smaller crystals in this. Have a little time tomorrow to try again. u

Continued digging off and on all week. Still finding softball size Quartz scatterred in the ground very crystallized lie the last couple pics but. I real crystals. I do not seem to finding finding what I would consider to be a vein. Going to try and dig some more next week. Ground has actually dug pretty easily few inches of black soil, few red clay then about 8-12 inches of yellowish gray soil and then back to clay. Quartz seems to be in the yellowish dirt. Frustrating to not have the knowledge to know more. Hope everyone else gets em soon.

Follow the quartz uphill until it stops. The vein has to be right there.

Makes sense, the original crystals I found were around the root ball of a large oak. Found one more on the next tree down hill towards a very steep drop to the creek. I have searched around the other half dozen downed trees and found nothing. Using them to keep my area narrowed down. The original ones, the small ones pictured above did not seem very deep. Will continue working up this week. Most of the crystallized rocks have a very smooth side. Seem as though they have been broken out of larger boulders over time.

Two more feet, two more softball sized blobs and several golfball sized. Lunch break is not enough time to dig each day. All I got though at the moment.
