For those of ya that are fortunate enough to live around the UNF... is it difficult to get permission to work on someones property out there? Naturally the most promising locations almost all fall on private land... do they want some outrageous cut of the profit / gold or most don't care?
I'm wanting to do some high banking but obviously this brings up some issues with current FS "regulations", can anyone give me some guidance here please?
(if you can tell I'm interested in a bit more than just casual prospecting)

ive been on a lot of private land around here in uwharrie. none of it was worth going back too. I gave up on running equipment on private land because I could find better gold with a pan on government land. getting permission can be hard but as long as you know someone out there then you have somewhere to start. I don't run any equipment anymore and I don't mess with private land.

I'm wanting to bench prospect however I'm not sure that's going to fly on NF land far as I can tell? Cuts could be 6-8ft deep so kinda why I was trying to get a feel for private land out there.

I understand but most of the private land around here is just not worth it. the government bought any land with decent gold around here back in the 1930s. also consider this... before you go punching 8 ft holes you will want to make sure you are on good ground first. im not saying you cant get in good gold on private land but it will be tough.

and yes you are correct. no diging outside of the creek in the public part of unf. good luck and I hope you find a lot of gold.
