HEY, I will be new to dredging and I need some much needed help finding a place to go if I purchase the dredge this spring. I am thinking about buying a 5" duel 6.5 Honda Keene 5211HP dredge, but where is a good area around WINSTON SALEM,NC and CHARLOTTE,NC that I could use it?? Or would I have to go a longer distance to use it?? When I get it , I would like to get a group of dredgers together and find some great gold this coming spring 2016..MAN, WHERE HAVE THE YEARS GONE???.. Thanks for any info !!!!

I don't do much dredging but I know a lot of them go to western nc, upstate sc, and southwestern va. these days it seems public access is getting hard to find for dredgers so most dredgers have their own creeks on private land, travel out of state, or go to a pay to play spot. there is one place called the rocky river in stanly county. good gold in that river but its been hit very hard because of easy access.

Thanks URE... that's pretty much what I was thinking. But remember...places that are hit hard , always have areas never hit at all. I do have some access to a private creek near Asheboro, but it is not a creek for a 5" dredge, maybe a 2" backpack dredge. OH WELL, I may just move to the Rogue river, get a permit and enjoy my life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK ON ALL YOUR HUNTS!!

URE.. My sister and I dig that creek in Asheboro every chance we get..Hunting season has put a big dent in the times we go.. we do not want to disrupt the people that deer hunt Monday-Saturday, so now we are limited to prospecting on Sundays.. I have about 3/4 of a 5 gallon bucket of sluice cons that I have not processed from there. When I do, I will post pictures of my finds.. I finally got a miller table and 30,50,70,100 mesh classifiers, so my processing should get a little more productive. I have always dreaded the task of panning cons, when you have 5 to 10 days worth of sluice cons to go through and no clean up sluice to help!! How do you process your cons???

i pan all my cons as long as theres not a lot of black sand. theres a new law about hunting on sundays. you can hunt on sunday but it has to be private land and it can only be done with a bow. i see a lot of bow hunters hunting on sunday now.

WOW..I did not know that you could bow hunt on Sundays on private land..COOL !!! I also pan out a lot of my cons , but I have the same problem as you with the HEAVY black sands. that is why I got the miller table.. I think it will help. Do you run your cons thru a cleanup sluice before panning??

I used to run them through a cleanup sluice years ago but these days it seems faster and easier to just pan them down. how much cons do you normally come back with? most of the time I bring back just enough to cover the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. if your coming back home with with lots and lots of cons then the miller table would be best.

I sometimes just run the sluice for around 3 hours then just do a cleanup into a bucket then repeat several times a day never panning anything. I have around a half bucket sometimes of just whatever the sluice caught all day. I have ran my miller table after ""SLOWLY"" panning into a "safety" pan then running the safety pan and I am catching very small gold (a lot that I can barely see) that I was losing when panning. I always put some jet dri in my panning container when panning, but it still gets out. It is not much but it adds up !!! so I would say,the miller table was an overall good purchase for me. I have noticed that I am catching TINY gold that is covered in mercury. What do you do with gold that has mercury on it??

do not put mercury gold with the rest of your gold. the mercury will spread to the rest of your gold. its kinda neat but it kinda sucks to lol. I keep all my mercury gold that I find in a container by itself.

When I asked , I was meaning "Is there a safe way to get the mercury off the gold?" and how is it done? I have heard of burning it off but that presents a whole lot of safety aspects to look at !! I have tried to up load some pictures of my gold finds, but I get a message that they are too big.. I will try to set my camera for taking smaller file pictures. Thanks for your comments !!! Maybe I will see you on the creek one day !!
