I have done a lot of research as far as where to look and find gold.Last time I touched a pan, was in high school for a little project. Even done some geoligcal studies as far as the carolina slate belt goes, veins and such these past two weeks. I have spent the hole weekend for approximately 10 hours each day maybe more watching videos and reading. I ordered some pans and sivs via Amazon, but due to working the past few years I havent gotten to really know anyone in the area so am looking for someone to maybe come out, show me some areas to get started and have a fun weekend panning. I am familiar with Roanoke,VA quite well. Born and Raised. Been living in Greensboro now since 2011. My girlfriend lives in Hazleton,PA, around a lot of ATV trails right in the back yard that run for miles around abandon coal mines as well. I am looking to get a good detector and possibly even a decent 3 or 5 inch dredge in the future, depending on the exact rules. I have read you can only do certain stuff on public land vs asking someone to be on their privately owned property to do this or that. Seems a bit confusing as to what you can or cannot do as far as dredging and sluicing goes. A face to face conversation would be much easier for myself to understand. Im familiar with a lot of the Virginia area as far as trails, creeks and rivers. Not so much with NC. Im not sure if you can private message on this forum or not, but would be willing to toss my number to ya and we could meet some place near UNF. Let me know!

welcome to the group. in uwharrie national forest you can pan, and sluice. hand tools only. no sucker tubes or suction dredging. no mechanical or moving equipment. no metal detectors. pretty much just sluice and pan. on private land you can do pretty much anything.
