New to this forum and Uwharrie NF. I'm tired of going to the "pay to play" places in Western NC (3 1/2 hrs away) and started researching Uwharrie NF instead due to proximity (1 1/2 hrs). Wondering if anyone has any tips on where to get started or places to avoid. (ie: over crowding, hazards, or just jerky type people...) Any info would be appreciated because other than stopping by the Ranger Station for maps and info... well I got nothing. Thanks.

Mocassin creek is a good creek to hit.. I would go down a bit from the bridge, .5 - 1.0 miles or so. But really any creek in UNF has gold in it. You will see all the places people have worked down there.
