Hello all. I'm out of Raford, NC. Soon retiring military, so I have a lot of time on my hands to do some mining finally. I've only mined UNF here in NC, but I do enjoy geology and looking for mineralization where ever I go. I'm originally from Idaho and have lived all over in the western US. I got into mining because most of my family were at one time or another commercial gold miners. I tagged along as a kid and got hooked.
I'm open for group outings, etc. If you're new I can get you out there weather permitting. I have a sluice, pans, and classifiers.

Thanks all! I wish I could this weekend, but I'm heading the WA state for a week or so of backpacking and mining. I'm definitely going to try and get out soon though.

And I'm back. I'd post some pictures of my finds here, but my camera isn't a microscope lol. Out of three sites that I panned at (was backpacking with my kids so didn't have much time) I recovered about 20-30 specks of flour gold and about an ounce of black sand. Two areas were vicinity of Blewett ghost town and the other was a GPAA claim in Clallam county. Only sampled these areas really, doing about two or three pans of material at each site with a small Gold Catcher 2 pan.
Spent a bit of time near Curlew, Republic, and Molson WA while exploring near the Canadian border. There are active commercial mines at Curlew and Republic. Molson is basically a ghost town and I couldn't find any public access to gold bearing streams in my short time there. The old school house there is a museum now and has a few photos of the old mines in the area.
Other than that I did find some fossils and some agate while mining, so a good looksy trip for me as I've never mined in the area. Wish I could have spent more time mining versus walking with 85 pounds on my back though! Beautiful country this time of year.

Sure did - I divorced her a while back, but thought I'd go visit her in WA. She's bigger and meaner than I left her too!
