Hello Forum Members,
My name is Mike and I have recently began panning in the southern end of the Uwharrie's near Mt. Gielad NC. As of yet, all i have found is black sand but I really enjoy getting out and working in the creeks. I'm going to start exploring the UNF and I was wondering if anyone was willing to give me pointers or even teach me the ropes. I have panning equipment and classifiers but I'm not sure what type of sluice works well in this area. I would enjoy meeting up with others and learning whatever bits of wisdom that you are willing to pass on. God Bless!!!

whats up welcome to the forum the uwharries are a fantastic place, lots of stuff there tons of history. As for gold i know there was a gold mine outside of troy in a small community called onvil it was a placer and hard rock operation. Not sure if thats close to you or not but the creeks in that area might be worth checking out. You can run a sluice in most creeks most of the year except summer then the creeks dry up. Hope this helps.
